You are NEVER supposed to cut into the eponychium (what most people call the cuticle). It is living tissue and your clients could get a raging infection by you cutting into it! You just need to push it back and clean the sticky, white CUTICLE off the nail. As that process continues the eponychium will shrink. Keep it moisturized and pushed back and that is good enough. Mine are so thin now that they can barely be seen. NO need to cut off skin!

I tried builder with dual forms to strengthen my natural long thin nails, but they don't fit flush. I waste time trying to file down, and shape the way too thick tips. I can't figure out what kind/shape I need to buy. I search "shape" but get almond, coffin, etc. Any suggestions?

This is called Habit-Tic Deformity. It’s from her picking at her cuticles & less likely from a nail tech. Those ridges occurred every time she’s picked. so there’s no way this could’ve been a nail tech from one visit. I know this because I have the exact same thing and I’m in the process of correcting my habit (that I’ve had since childhood) by putting superglue on my cuticle.

There was zero reason to cut that part of the nail off.
